For her presentation this season, Charlie May decided to open the doors to the usually secluded lookbook shoot, with the styling and photography happening in front of an invited audience. Taking place in one of the suites at the feels-like-a-landmark-but-actually-new Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair, the salon-like atmosphere and Art Deco furnishings provided a perfect foil for May’s chic modernism. As the Beatrice Dalle doppelganger model eased into poses, stylists were making last minute adjustments, the live aspect of the shoot enabling the clothes to be seen in intimate motion; a flash of leg through a split skirt here, a gamine pose with generous trouser hems pooling around the ankles there. As much as the clothes echoed certain aspects of menswear, there was an innate femininity as oversized shapes framed the body like seductive armour and there was an emphasis on tactile fabrics, from leather and shearling to rich wools.
