Two of London’s most colourful designers have reestablished the capital’s status as home of the world’s wildest dressing up box this weekend.
On Friday afternoon Ryan Lo introduced Ali Baba themed harem pants to his signature layered baby doll dresses, a vision infused with the poly cultural mix of his native Hong Kong, taking us on a visual trip through that island’s exotic chaos.
Meanwhile, just this morning, Matty Bovan, the Saint Martin’s graduate who has already worked with both Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton and starred on a LOVE magazine cover, brought a heavyweight fashion crowd to Old Spitalfields Market to witness the first collection being presented under his own name, as part of the Fashion East showcase.
Replete with space rave makeup and wild coloured hair, echoing the designer’s highly individual personal style, Bovan’s collection featured threaded lurex, beading, web-like crocheted layers and a colour palette reminiscent of ‘90s Club Kids attire, amounting to a pitch-perfect take on the fashion trope ‘downtown wildchild takes on uptown chic’ the like of which may not have been seen since the days of Stephen Sprouse.
